Everything was black. It felt as if a void had surrounded Snake, trapped in some strange dream. He could see nothing, feel nothing, but faintly hear the sounds of various medical machines. Beeps, buzzes, and whirrs were among the noises.
Come on we're going to lose him!
Don't give up on us now, push through!
You're stronger than that, you're a legendary hero.
Those words echoed through his head and stuck with him. What did they mean? Was he dead? The last thing Snake knew was that he was at his house in Alaska, in old age, enjoying his last few months of life. Peace was finally restored throughout Earth and no more battles were in place. With the Patriots finally gone there was no one left to manipulate the world into war. There were copycat attempts but they failed. If he was truly dead, Snake did not mind. He was satisfied with his life. However the cold touch of death was absent. A warm breeze was felt blowing gently over his body and the sounds of machines slowly faded away. Was death toying with him? Was it FOXDIE? It was said that when one experiences death they would feel a range of emotions, euphoria being one of them. To Snake it was a strange feeling. Once more sounds graced his ears, but they were no longer the sounds of machines. It sounded like ...seagulls and ocean waves. Someone must have been playing a tape to keep his nerves calm. During Liquid Ocelot's Insurrection he would frequently listen to his iPod to stimulate his nerves while on missions.
Slowly Snake's eyes started to open. As they opened a blinding light crept through his eyelids and blinded Snake. While trying to open his eyes he started to get double vision and saw everything in faint duplicates. Once adjusted to the light, Snake was able to open his eyes more and get a better feel of the area. The sun was strong so to block out some rays Snake lifted up his left arm to guard his eyes. Even his arm appeared in doubles. W..what happened.. Snake thought as he propped himself up off the sandy beach. He took a moment to take in his surroundings, the constant strong sunlight was giving him a migraine. Where am I? Is this a dream, am I stuck in a coma? The pain wasn't intense but it was annoying enough to delude him. Or is this heaven? With his right hand he pinched himself and felt pain. Not dead yet. So, not even accelerated aging could kill me huh? Snake didn't see his extended life as a punishment, but he really questioned it, as would anyone.
Once the double vision faded away Snake was able to get up. He walked on the beach towards the oceanfront to stare out into the endless blue. This isn't the Atlantic or the Pacific.. Perhaps Snake was dropped off at the beach by one of his allies? But why would they take him from his home to bring him here?
Snake! Sunny and I will always be here no matter what.
The words came back again and it sounded like Otacon. He grabbed his head fast in response. The whole experience was really jarring and shocked him to an extent. Putting his arms down he turned around to notice a city, one that he did not recognize. The structure looked really antique and renaissance. Right away Snake struck out 'timetravel' from his mind, that was impossible. One question constantly ran through his head. How did I get here? There was no use for Snake staying in one place and contemplating the hows or the why. He would not be able to get any answers by himself so he would have to go out into the city and ask around. Though he was curious to see if his codec still worked. Snake kneeled down and placed two fingers to his right ear, trying many different frequencies.
140.85, 140.12, 140.80, 140.96.. nothing but white noise. It was worth a shot. With the codec out of the question, Snake then traversed through the city to see if he could find anyone to answer his questions. The buildings that he passed by were almost nothing like he ever seen. Snake had traveled the world before for many different missions and for personal leisure. He was pretty sure that no city this large on the globe existed. Something was off though. It seemed like the city was pretty baron, possibly even abandoned. The buildings were antiquated, but he was pretty sure they were occupied. Snake thought he was probably just not in a populated area of the town, so he traveled deeper into the city.
